What MP Estate Planning is — and is not

MP Estate Planning UK Ltd is an estate planning consultancy. It is not a law firm and is not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. The Company does not provide regulated legal advice and does not provide regulated financial advice.

Where a client’s circumstances require regulated advice — for example, on the drafting of a will or trust deed, on pension transfers, or on tax planning that goes beyond general information — the Company introduces clients to professionals who are appropriately regulated:

  • Solicitors regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (the Company works with Feakes & Co Ltd, SRA-regulated firm number 654837, on matters that require an SRA-regulated solicitor)
  • Chartered Tax Advisers (CTAs), regulated by the Chartered Institute of Taxation, where complex tax advice is needed
  • Financial advisers authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority, where regulated investment or pension advice is needed

This structure is common in the UK estate planning market: a consultancy provides the introduction, planning discussion and documentation co-ordination, and regulated specialists carry out the work that falls within their respective regulators’ remits.

What MP Estate Planning does

The Company’s day-to-day work generally falls into three areas, each of which is described in general terms below. Whether any of these services is suitable for a particular individual depends on that individual’s circumstances and may require advice from a regulated professional before any action is taken.

Estate planning consultancy

Helping individuals and families think through what they own, who they would like to benefit, and the general structures (such as wills, lifetime gifts and trusts) that exist under England-and-Wales law. The Company provides information and discussion, and where documentation is required the Company introduces clients to SRA-regulated solicitors who draft the relevant documents.

Inheritance-tax planning information

Discussing how UK inheritance tax (IHT) operates in 2026/27 — including the nil-rate band (currently £325,000, frozen until 5 April 2031), the residence nil-rate band, transferable allowances between spouses and civil partners, and the seven-year rule for lifetime gifts — and which professionals are typically involved where tax planning is considered. The Company provides general information; specific tax planning advice is provided by Chartered Tax Advisers or other regulated professionals.

Introductions to regulated professionals

Where work requires regulated advice — drafting of legal documents, regulated financial advice, complex tax advice — the Company introduces clients to professionals who are appropriately authorised in their fields.

Regulatory context

It is important for UK consumers to understand which parts of the estate planning market are regulated and which are not. In England and Wales:

  • Will-writing and estate planning consultancy are not, in general, regulated activities. A number of firms operate in this space, some of which are members of voluntary trade bodies. MP Estate Planning UK Ltd is one of these firms.
  • The drafting of certain legal documents and the giving of regulated legal advice is restricted to firms regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority or another approved regulator under the Legal Services Act 2007.
  • Regulated financial advice — including advice on investments, pensions and certain insurance products — is restricted under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 to firms authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Because of this, the Company is transparent about its position: it is a non-regulated consultancy that works alongside regulated professionals. Consumers considering any estate planning arrangement are encouraged to satisfy themselves that the professionals involved hold the appropriate regulatory authorisations for the work being carried out. Verification can be carried out free of charge via the SRA’s solicitor search for solicitors, the FCA Register for financial advisers, and the Companies House register for any UK company.
